My R1200GS was purchased by a local friend whose wife, unfortunately, was unhappy with the pillion accommodations. I bought it but found the red color unappealing, so I had the tank cover and beak repainted with a Jeep Electric Lime Green Metallic. A lot easier to find in rally parking lots.

I toured with it quite a bit for four years, until August 2010. On the Cherohala Skyway, at No Name Gap, I hit a patch of very thick gravel and and was violently thrown off the bike. We were both damaged quite badly but recovered. It took about five months of hospital, nursing and rehab to put me together again. I decided it was time to downsize to a lighter touring bike, so moved on to the new Triumph Tiger 800. The 1200 went to a fellow FL enthusiast who, as a helicopter mechanic, had the skills and patience to put it back to as new condition. He loves it and I still see it occasionally.
